A complete recovery and return to an active lifestyle is the goal of Community Hospital’s 10-bed inpatient Acute Rehabilitation Unit. Specializing in the rehabilitation of orthopedic patients, our team of physicians, nurses and therapists work together, helping patients function to their fullest.
Treatment plans are based on extensive evaluations of a patient’s abilities and potential. Our skilled team will address each patient’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs. Highly individualized, daily, one-on-one sessions promote quick healing and a return to everyday activities for our patients.

Under the direction of Dr. Archana Barve, Community Hospital’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit specializes in caring for adults who need intensive and comprehensive rehabilitation therapies. Families are encouraged to participate in all patient care activities and receive assistance in preparing for a patient’s return home.Â
Inpatient Physical Therapy
Physical therapists and physical therapy assistants demonstrate and teach patients how to use their body properly to decrease pain, gain strength and mobility and prevent recurring injury.  The therapists also advise on proper posture and ergonomics in the work place, treating injuries, consulting on fitness and administering physical therapy in the home.
Inpatient Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants work together to meet the needs of clients with physical and mental challenges in order to develop activities of daily living (ADL) that work best for those clients. For a client with a physical disability, the first focus is on performing critical daily routines, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and eating. Once these skills are mastered, a program is then built around the skills needed to perform tasks such as participating in education, caring for a home and family or seeking and maintaining employment.
Inpatient Speech Therapy
A speech therapist is a specialist with training in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of speech, voice, and language disorders who works with people, unable to make speech sounds or cannot make them clearly. They also work with people who stutter, have fluency and rhythm problems, inappropriate pitch, or harsh voice and speech quality problems. The most widespread and obvious speech disorder is stuttering, often caused by anxiety. Other disorders may result from hearing loss, stroke, cerebral palsy, mental disability, or brain injury. Speech therapists keep careful records on the evaluation and progress of patients, often developing and implementing individualized treatment programs based on the input of physicians, psychiatric social workers and psychologists.
